Phar Lap's Death Confirmed Accidental

Forensic scientists in Melbourne, Australia say champion Australian gelding Phar Lap died of arsenic poisoning, solving the 75-year-old mystery. Notebooks kept by Phar Lap's handler Tommy Woodcock, obtained by Museum Victoria, show the horse was administered tonics and ointments containing both arsenic and strychnine. Now proven to be an accidental overdose, speculations of a conspired death may rest.

This 1984 Film, "Phar Lap" is a favorite.

Holly on the silver-screen.

HOT! HOT! HOT!

100+ degrees during the afternoons this week.

The rails of the fences are too hot to touch.
Cool water is the name of this game.

At her new home, Holly continues to attract everyone to her stall, all hours of the day. People love to watch her no matter what she's doing.

THE MOVE

Holly and Jewel have moved to another location! Nearer the beaches, a stall under the shade of an oak tree is perfect for the coming Summer heat (104 at the stable today). The morning of the move will start the pictures, as Holly scampers around her old pasture "one last time". Upon arrival at her new place, some yummy food is waiting for them. A nap in the shade finishes their early afternoon.

Day Six

Holly seems playful and is curious away from mom. She was poking her head through the green fence where a small zip-tie came loose today.

She has a sweet temperament, and is very interested in learning. While exercising Jewel, Holly tries to keep in step, and looks to be having a lot of fun.

Holly turns to the internet for entertainment. Please contact Holly using the mail link on the right but don't encourage her to get on MySpace.

Neigh!

Holly made her first sound! A small(ish) whinny late this afternoon to call her mom closer. She is learning how to use those long legs, but may not realize the distance from her mom they can quickly take her. Sleeping is also on her top priority list.

Day Four/ Five

Back to work and school - extremely busy.

Horses are calm. To avoid slipping and injury, Holly's bedding of straw is to be replaced with large shavings. Jewel broke out in what looked like mosquito bites because her immune system crashed post birth. A dose of antihistamines worked like a charm (although I've never heard of an actual charm working, it's just an expression).

Holly continues to be the first thing on our minds 24/7.
